95 S420 Hard And Late Shift

I have a 95 S420 that has a hard shift as well as a late shift. I checked the shift cable and it seems to be fine and not sticking. I even disconnected the cable and drove the car and it still takes a while to shift. Oh forget about last gear shifting untill you get up to 65mph. I think it may need a valvebody. Also the car was flood damaged so the transmission has been serviced once, due to the milkshake color fluid. I was thinking about trying a synthetic trans fluid and filter change again. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Melvin

The transmission in that car should be a 722.366. In All 722.3 transmissions the vacuum modulator controls shift “FEEL” only; it’s the load control for working pressure. The cable controls shift timing only. With the cable removed all up shifts should be stack and early. You have two different and separated drivability problems, each controlled by different components.

I am not sure if that car has an E/S mode switch if so, try this first; that car has an up shift delay vacuum actuator. Disconnect and plug the vacuum feed line to the switchover valve. Reconnect the Bowden cable, if the Trans shift on time, the late shift problem is in the up shift delay system. The modulator may have a vacuum (harsh shift) problem as well.

If not it’s the valve body.

Water contamination in the valve body can cause the harsh and late shifts, the plastic accumulators can crack.
