I would give $10k for it,but not $27K. I bought a very nice 114K mile 420SEL for $5k including airfare to get it. And I don't have to worry about the rear Hydro problems. Mine was as clean as this one just a few more miles not worth the difference for a 16+year old car. Just my 2 cents. Alan

My car is in as good of shape as that one, but the one on auction has a somewhat foggy laquer on the wood(driver's door). I also think mine has a much better color combination than the one pictured.

114,000 and 30,105 miles is a big difference. Thats something like 350% more.

A car like that, if genuine, is very hard to figure. I'd say low 20's is more fair game for that car.

As was mentioned earlier, you can buy a car of near equal perfection with slightly more miles for considerably less.

I have questions as to WHY it is on E-BAY if it is SOOOOO perfect!

That's just how this seller chooses to sell his cars I guess. He usually has pristine older MBs with low miles up for sale on eBay. And yes, I do wonder where he finds these things.

Red face 80's Benz 420,560 SEL's

This car may not be worth the 27K+, but I think it is worth 20K or so, in that condition. Too many Benz buyers want a terrific bargain, or they won't buy the car! I think bargains are great, but these cars are real quality items and worth some dollars if in VG condition.

Compare the 80's Benz with todays "luxury" cars selling in the 70's, including Benz, BMW, Lexus and Jaguar and you can see that the older Benz' are a bargain at any reasonable price. They also drive extremely well.

I paid $7K for my 89 420SEL, which looks just as good as the Ebay 560SEL -
and I think that was a bargain. It could sell for around $12K to someone who really wants a good car, with certain features.

The value of that 560SEL is certainly in the eyes of the beholder, but it is worth a lot more than $7K -- with that low mileage, in that condition.

I'm not sure why everyone is so excited. First, his Buy-it-Now price is $27 large but his reserve may be well less than that, we don't know yet. Second, as nice as that car looks, it also looks like every possible surface has been smeered with ArmourAll or the like which means it's really hard to know what the true condition is (besides that stuff is really bad for just about everything).

Just my .02

I think the general consensus that e-bay is the place to unload the trash of the world is not correct. E-bay provides the maximum number of eyes to see the vehicle in the shortest possible time. How many folks would be in the market for such a vehicle, and, how many of those would be local to the seller? This type of vehicle needs a national venue more than the trash does, IMHO. Of course, selling on e-bay in a short period of time, where the seller cannot really confirm all the claims, will probably hurt the sales price. Someone who wants such a vehicle probably won't take a flier on e-bay unless the price is very attractive.

But, I've been wrong about the intelligence of e-bay purchasers in the past.

The price is way too high. I sold my 1991 560SEL last November for $20,500. It had 17,500 miles on it at the time of sale and was absolutely flawless. The problem with the low mileage cars is that the low miles do drive up the price but when they are driven the price drops dramatically. The real question that I would have would be how was the car maintained. Typically one with this few miles requires a hell of a lot of maintenance at regular intervals since the oil, anti freeze, brake fluids and seals get pretty nasty from not being in use. Trust me I know; it seemed almost futile to do all of the things you needed to do to keep a low miler in good mechanical shape only to not use the car.

This guy looks like a great "marketeer" with phrases like the spare has never been on the ground. Let's hope not a 16 year old tire probably should not be put on the ground.

Great to see a fresh car like that.

In the car business, there used to be an expression:

"There's an ass for every seat"

I think 40k for that convertible would be a good deal. Cost 80k when new....and is virtually new with a timeless design.... a much better design than current cars.
