Hot air with A/c on

I need some help with my 1986 190e 2.3 16v a/c
I do know the center dash vents will never blow hot air. They are a/c and fresh air only.
I also know for sure how to operate the a/c and the heat, i am pressing the correct buttons. That said...
Car has 89,000 miles and I have had it for only 1 month. A/c does seem to blow cold air fine...only problem is it blows cold air from the center dash vents and HOT air from the side dash vents by the doors. WHY?
What valve is stuck open or closed, and or what vacuum module is not working correctly? I was starting to research the problem and am thinking the heater valve ( is that also called the monovalve) might be open and circulating hot water...either the valve is bad or the vacuum is not closing the valve...am I even close yet? AmI getting warmer?
help.
Christopher

squeeze..

squeeze off the heather hose with a pair of vise grips.. if the air conditioning starts blowing cold, then that valve is your problem
