300e 103 timing chain tensioner
 

does someone have a easy way to pull the tensioner back out so I can put a new one in, got the head off and bought a chain and new tensioner kit, my old 300d came out pretty easy as I remember but this one won't release, I tried pushing from the chain side no luck, thanks

You just unscrew the entire chain tensioner assembly from the outside, THEN push the plunger all the way through and start it through again so that it can ratchet up in place once oil pressure is applied, then screw the tensioner back in place.

Failure to do so before timing system assembly can do serious damage.

this means I have to remove the chain guide and pull it thru? it doesn't look like there is a enough room but will try it

As I recall you don't have to remove the chain guide. Just back out the tensioner.

The reason people are having trouble with the tensioner is b/c there is a second holding ring inside the tensioner that holds the pressure pin in its sleeve. You can not just take the tensioner out ... you must unscrew this threaded sleeve.

Then, you can simply push the pin all the way through and out the end of its fixture .. it will only push out , not in , b/c there is a one way cup/spring that will not allow it to be pushed back in [ that is what is refered to as the ratchet.. it is not a ratchet at all , it is a one direction lock clip]
Once the pin is out , you simply bring it full circle and put it back in its fixture from the front.
That's it..

there is so much mis-understanding about this and the price is steep if you don't do it correctly, so , here it is ..read this if you are interested.

thanks that makes alot more sense, I don't remember my 83 300d being quite the same but worked on the same idea, thanks for the help
