I want to buy a wood shift knob but am uncertain which kind of wood in car. It is not the straight line redish color like in my bud's 420. It is wavy and has a greyish hue. it is a 89 560SEC. Do i need just a knob or a whole shift assembly with the shaft that screws in. reason being I see some that look almost universal and some that have the shaft.

if the wood has lots of parallel lines in black on it it is the zebrano wood.
If its more of a swirled pattern its the burlwood. I'm not sure if they used other wood, but if its not the zebrano it is most likelyt he burlwood. Alon

My mate down the road has a '91 560SEC ( euro ) and his has the burlwood as standard. This, and the zebrano hates the sun and direct sunlight as it cracks and crazes real easy. Keep the interior well covered when the car is parked outside, that wood is real expensive to replace !
