J&B Automotive on Edinburg Road in Hamilton Township. I have been using them for my 1989 300TE and have been very satisfied.

german car shop is as expensive as the dealers and the owner has developed an attitude issue ever since he's started getting more business. I would avoid them. Any other suggestions close to central jersey ?
thnx.

A1 German in Piscataway (Peter) or Roxbury Foriegn Car in Roxbury (Hans). Both are very qualified mechanics.. A1 is probably cheaper.

Thnx very much. I will try to contact them.
A car ownership is only pleasant when one can find good and honest mechanics. That seems to be quite a rare quality these days. Central Jersey seems to have some wealthy townships and that has resulted in some outrageous prices by the private mechanics and major attitude issues as well. They probably have more than enough business and therefore most of the times quote high prices which customers probably don't complaint about... At the same time, the shops are now accustomed to do half the job and leaving half of it to force the customer to come back and pay more. Most customers who are not that technically inclined or don't have the time to hassle with such car issues have no choice but to pay these shops. Hence I have realized that I need to change the shops in order to avoid such future issues. "Regular Customers" are the ones who usually end up in this scenario and I refuse to be a part of this !

If you don't mind a bit of a drive, I recommend Dave Jay in Ewing. He is an independent Mercedes Master Tech and is a very cost-conscious and very capable guy. He uses rebuilt/used parts whenever practical and does ist class work. He overhauled the A/C system on my 82 300Td...INCLUDING a new compressor and cleanout of the blower unit and its ductwork (which tend to deteriorate with age and shed particulate matter which impairs airflow into the cabin) for about $1000. Also overhauled the entire brake system, including calipers, vacuum booster and M/C plus pads for under $750.
Plu, he's really busy all the time, and a really nice guy! Best, Frank |

Frank,
thanks very much for the information. For a good mechanic the commute is of no concern. Is there a contact number for him ? thnx.
