I just did this this afternoon. It was a little dare, b/c my friend has a new Mustang, and he could do a "little" burnout by comparison; boy did I show him! lol I didn't think my little E320 would be up to it... boy was I wrong! Looks like a RennTech Ad! ;P

I've done it in my benz once too, not too hard. If its a Brake stand like I think it is. Keep the foot on the brake and keep giving it gas until the wheels breakloose, then keep applying the gas. Do it on a straightaway and release the brake when you feel like launching the car.

BUT...

I take no responsibility if you mess up the car though. I have done it once for a short 10 seconds, and don't intend on doing it again. You have no idea what it could be doing to the suspension and or brakes. or the the car for that matter.

burnouts require heel and toe technique. We start out with your right foot. The tip/toes of the right foot are on the brake pedal. The heel of the right foot is over the surface of your accelerator pedal. press don't with your toe so your brake pedal is depressed. Then slow apply pressure at the heel, so you give the car gas...and watch the RPM's increase...and then release your toe...and the car will go flyin' down the road...

With Manual tranny, this is the proper way to do. But with auto tranny, simply use the left foot on brake, right foot on gas, and do what Alon(Ashman)stated above...

I hope my tire dealer doesn't see this and think that it is my 300E. I have six year unlimited mileage Michelins, I've already gotten one free set, he wouldn't like seeing me doing this.

Note the patch of tire terd aft of the tread marks.

Q - Actually, that is just a bad place in my driveway. If you look at the below photo, I circled where the rear tires were actually setting when this took place (red). The spot in the blue circle is not aligned with the rear marks at all.



I held this for about 10 seconds in drive with the brake all the way down, and holding the throttle at about 3500 R;PMS, until I let it go which it went up to 6500.

The car did loose control somewhat after I took off because I had to make that turn: guess I should have backed it off farther.

It was fun anyways!

Now that we've seen an E320 really light 'em up, I'd like to see all 4 tires smoking on a 4Matic. Come on, you 4Matic owners, there must be some of you that did burnouts in your parents' Roadmaster when you were in high school. You remember how to do it.

P.S. I guess somebody will want to see an S-Class burnout now. Sorry, I don't have a digital camera, nor a flatbed scanner. Spent all my money on new drag slicks.

A 4Matic wouldn't be able to do a burnout, because all 4 wheels go all at once, not like a rear wheel drive. I guess if you held long enough, your rear brakes would eventually give and allow some movement.
