1990 Mercedes 560SEL Trouble
Hello. I have a 1990 560 SEL that is having the following problem. It starts fine but after about 10-15 minutes of driving the car gradually loses power and finally stops running. I have had the rotors replaced and fuel pumps. I am in Jacksonville Florida and the car has about 275,000 miles. Any ideas the guys here at AshTisdale have no more ideas. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

have you looked at the KE control unit? Are the pumps still pumping when it dies? have you checked to see if the throttle plate is moving easily?
Let me know on those as there are still more items you can check. Jonathan |
Fuel Starved?
I also have a similar problem my 1987 560 SEL was driving fine then on a slight hill it died. When I tried to restart I noticed the low fuel indicator on and it would not start (the fuel gauge is at half tank which I think is accurate). I tried again in 15 min. and it started I drove for 1 minute and it died again. The low fuel indicator is now off and it starts fine. I'll drive around and see if the problem still exists. Where should I start to solve this intermittent problem?

I'd jump pins 7 & 8 on your fuel pump relay, see if that makes things happy.. FYI, your pumps will run as long as the key is on w/ it jumped.
Also, check the positive battery terminal, make sure the two red wires coming off are securly attached/have good contact. Jonathan |
Jump pin 7 & 8
Yup that made things happy. My relay is right in the middle of the firewall. I just stuck a large gauge wire in the holes 7 and 8 the pumps whirred and away I go. The pumps run all the time key in or not. thanks for the tip.

Great...FYI, do NOT use KAE relays...they are Crap. Every one I have opened up has been a shadow of what the real deal is.
