IF you have to change the headlights for the 94-95 style hood and grille, if you had euro lights couldn't you change the lenses to the 94-95 euro lights style or are they not interchangeable. I have noticed some have done it without changing the lights from the euro ones, so I would think it only covers the upper corner of the fogs...

Just wondering about it.

I plan on just putting in the Euro Headlights on my car.

Which ones should I go for? the 500E ones with the driving lights or the regular ones with the fogs?

would like to know. I never use the fogs at all, so I'd probably be more likely to enjoy the driving lights. If they wont work then I'll be going with the regular ones.

Ashman,

When converting the W124 model into the later W124 E-class with the changed bonnet (with that integrated grill), we only need to exchange the head-light lenses. The light unit itself is similar to the older/newer head-light units.

The only difference is that changed upper corner of the lens along that integrated grill-trim of the bonnet.
Lenses on european euro lights are interchangeable.

Just wondering...what are driving lights (on the 500 head lights); is that something like the beamers in the bumpers of most of the AMG models?

on the 124 500e/E500 the light next to the grille, in place of the regular 300e/e320/400e/e420 fog lights.

The reflector is different and the yellow cover has been removed. The lights have been redeigned for those to be driving lights instead of fog lights.

I believe the fog lights int he 500e were moved to those small ones in the front airdam/bumper.

So basically if I understand you correctly the lenese on the euro lights are interchangeable. If thats the case, then sweet!. that means when I do my body kit at some point. I can do the hood/grille by only buying the lenses for the 94-95 style euro lights.

Ashman,

You understood me correctly.
Right at this moment I am updating my 300CE conv. into a W124 E-class. I got myself a brandnew hood (from the MB dealer with a little scratch caused by transportation) to exchange it for the currently installed SEC-hood:eek:. I will only need to exchange the lenses from the headlight units; nothing more, nothing less.

The fog lights of the 500E are mounted in the bumper, that is right. The reflector is different because it is not being used as a fog light. What did the 500E get instead of that fog light beside the grill? Are there additional high beam lights? should be, I guess...or are driving lights to be considered as the dimmed lights?

I believe they are considered to be driving lights.

Dean, Michael, Roas, you should know this. you all have 500E's. :) hehe

MBenz,

You have it right, the Owners Manual calls them "Auxillary high beam headlamps", pg 91.

Ashman,

Do you know of a source for Euro 500E lights? I know I saw some really nice lights (not sure if they are Euro or not?) in some pictures posted from a Japan site recently, but I have not seen any on a US car.

Does anybody have any pictures of a 500E Euro conversion?

when i change over to euro headlights on my 300E i plan on getting the 500E lenses. i currently use my fog lights whenever my headlights are on because they offer more light and it also looks cool. i removed the yellow glass filters, the results are spectacular! the extra lighting makes a real difference. only problem is that some people think i have my brights on,so i get flashed sometimes. i would suggest anyone that keeps thier US
headlights removes the fog lamp filters. at least try it.

Roas, from my understanding the ones on the car on that japanese site were modified.

They added chrome rocker panel adhesive tape that you can get at pep boys etc. and trimmed everywhere the lights had grey plastic. It really makes the lights look very very cool.

They did it on 500E Euro lights.

You can try several places that I am going to list. prices will vary, and not all of them will have bosch or hella units, but aftermarket units.

http://www.bekkers.com
http://www.in-pro.com
http://www.importvision.com
http://www.europarts-sd.com
http://www.nrauto.com

and possibly http://www.peachparts.com/parts_lobby.htm :)

I'm sure there are some others.

For authenticity, I would go with the OE Bosch or Hella Units over aftermarket.

For budget reasons the aftermarket units should be fine and should look almost Idenitcal.

One of those sites should have what you need. Try europarts-sd if you want to see if they have new ones as well as used ones.

I havent yet gotten my euro lights, but will the 500E Euro lights work on my car? or did mercedes make some slight differences with the Coupe?

Along with the euro lights, I would recommend the bosch clear corners, or the in pro smoke silver corners.

And while you are doing the euro lights, you might as well do a full rewiring with the relays to really give the lights the power they deserve. :) hehe I plan on doing it.
