Hi,
I'm new here. Have '88 190E that will not run w/200K miles.
Fuel filter has been replaced. Exhaust system has been
replaced; spark plugs, and battery. It will only
run a short time when gas is poured in through the top
of the air cleaner assy, into what looks like a throddle
body and gas pedal is pumped rapidly. It will run until
poured in gas is depleted at 3,000 to 4,000 rpm only and
very rough. Plugs are not wet after doing this 3 times.

Please help with your suggestions.

Just out of curiosity have you checked the fuel pump?

I'm not a tech, but I'd check to see if fuel is flowing.

or the fuel pump relay could have gone South.

190E won't run

I have been told that if fuel pump relay is good, then
pump will vibrate. Wonder if fuel pump does not put out
adaquate pressure. Have no guages and its 35 miles
to nearest MB shop. I was wondering if the fuel pressure
check valve is bad. Any ideas????

190E not running

Check to see if the hose from the idle valve is disconnected under the fuel distributor. They will come off after a backfire and if it did you need to check and see why the system is to lean.

Stan,
I replaced that hose. It runs very rough.
Appears to be running too rich. Recently got it back from the body shop. I was getting bad airflow sensor code
but that has not surfaced since reset and over 1000 miles.

Any ideas,

Gary
