Hello, I have a '59 190D in pretty good shape, however it
recently dropped a valve. In lieu of rebuilding the engine (until I have the time and parts) can i substitute a 200D engine from a Fin-tail model? I'm pretty sure the motor mounts will be no problem, but I'm unsure of the mating of the 200D block to the 190D 4-speed tranny. All help appreciated. Thanks! Klaus |
Klaus,
This will probably be impossible... The fin-tailed 200D has got a different intermediate flange, flywheel and clutch-housing. The flywheel of that later 200D is balanced differently and will make the engine and car vibrate a lot. If you want to put in a newer engine into your car, you will probably be better off with a renewed tranny as well. Changing from a newer engine to an older one is easier as changing the older engine for a newer... I do not know the exact ins and outs of these older models, but this is what I was told once. There will be members on this board who will be able to help you out in a more specific way as I am able to... greetingz, |
