MB 300DT sluggish

May be to bad diesel in our area. I replaced the primary filter and the secondary (inline filter. Lately, engine hesitates and I suspect the in-line filter is dirty again. Outside of removing the tank (a shop recommended this before), how do I replace the screen filter. Where is this found.
Thanks,
Angel

Welcome to the forum.

Normally, diesel related questions are best posed in the "Diesel Discussion". Many more folks have the same fuel issues that you have posted here.

The tank screen is accessed from underneath the vehicle, directly above the differential. There are two hoses coming from the screen. One is the supply and the other is the return. You must remove both hoses to get the screen out.
Naturally, you are going to be swimming in diesel fuel, so, it's best to do this with the tank at the lowest possible level. You will still need a five gallon container to catch the fuel.

After the fuel is fully drained, the tank screen is removed with a special wrench. The wrench is 46mm on my SDL. I'm not positive of the size on the W123. It has been done with a pipe wrench before on the W123, but there is no assurance of success.

You need a replacement O-ring to put the screen back in. You can get a brand new screen from the dealer for about $17.00.

changing the tank filter be sure to try fungicide in the fuel to kill fungus which will grow in diesel if there is water present. this can be bought at a farm or truck supply. this stuff works very well.
