E320 2000 "Check Engine" light
My "check engine" light comes on for a few days, occasionally, then is off for a week or so. The dealer says that is probably just a loose gas cap or minor problem. No damage is being done as long as the light is not blinking.
any comments or suggestions????? MEBEDEZ gmoross@nycap.rr.com |

Get the stored code read and you will know for sure instead of guessing. Some auto parts stores will loan you the scanner or scan it for free...ask around. Most shops will charge a nominal fee to read it (it does not have to be read by MB dealer).
These cars have lots of sensors and one of the common failures in the MAF sensor (Mass Air Flow) which is on the intake. Can intermittently be bad or stay bad. Just needs to be out of parameters to trigger the CEL, as do any of the sensors. They are not necessarily failed, just out of spec. Still, you should have it checked to make sure.
