Overheating issue
This is my first post to the group. Thanks in advance for any assistance. My 300E 96K developed a nasty overheating issue to the point the coolnat boils in the reservoir then spits out coolant. We have replaced the thermostat. The radiator is brand new along with hoses. Mercedes coolant was used in proper ratio. I had a head gasket replacement and the head machined last Dec. Can anyone offer any advice. Has anyone else had this experience
Thanks Joel |

Assuming all of the work you had done was performed correctly, I'd check the expansion tank cap. It should be a Mercedes specific 1.4 Bar cap. Usually, they will have "140" stamped on the top.
If it is bad or incorrect, it could be allowing the coolant to boil at a lower temperature than it should. Also, check for air pockets in the cooling system and make sure the water pump and drive belt are ok.

I'd check and make sure your cooling fans are coming on as they should. You may even have a bad temp switch like I had causing your problem. I'm also hoping that your overheating problem didn't cause your head gasket/head warp prob in december... I know of a couple of people who had to have $2000+ worth of engine work done because of a cheap part like a $10 thermostat failing...
Good Luck! |
