Yep J. you remove the mid-muffler aft of the Cat outlets. A 3" "Y" pipe is fabricated and attached to the cat outlets and back to the rear muffler. I had the mod done in New Mexico on holiday, it cost me a whopping $90.00. It makes an attractive set and the sound is throaty pleasant. It helped performance as well, especially fuel economy. As stated after the cool air ram intake, the tub gave me 27-29 mpg at 70 mph with A/C. If interested and Ashman tells me how to send digital pics through the forum I'll take and send a few.

Pictures
Donald,
Yes, I would like to see pictures if you have them. I noticed some small holes in my center muffler and this may be a option...Thank you

I don't have the pics yet, but a good custom exhaust shop can handle it with ease. Yes, now is the time. I posted a new thread today about the performance of my '87 W124030, 170,600 miles, never been opened. In town driving, filed today, 20.2 mpg. I'll take that any time.

How's the chip
How much did that chip set you back & how much of an improvement did it make? Also when you did the exhaust mod. did it help the sulfer smell after driving hard.

Alan,
The chip was $395. Installation took about 1/2 an hour. Getting the module out is easy. Getting the EPROM out of the socket is the most time consuming part. You need a small torx driver, # 10 I believe, to get to the EPROM inside the computer module. I don't have any exact figures like from a G-Tech, but after the superchip, it did feel stronger, expecially in the upper RPMs. I am thinking about getting a G-Tech off of eBay. Then I will do some runs with the Superchip and without. I never really had a sulfer smell after hard driving. So it is hard to say. Hope this helps. -David |

Sulfer Smell
dsantos,
After reading this board for a while most people seem to be in agreement that this smell is normal. It is good to see that you don't have this problem. Does anyone know why mine does this and others do not? Is there any way, or any reason to correct the problem. Thanks, Alan Simonton 92' 400E 125k (Still running great!) |
