I have been noticing a gasoline odor coming from under the hood, very near the air cleaner, which suggests to me that it may be the EHA going bad. If so, is this a repair which I may be able to do, or is this more complex requiring a technician. Also, if anyone else may have an idea as to what may be causing this odor near the air cleaner side of the engine, please let me know. Is it common for gas lines/seals to leak under the hood?
Thanks in advance! |

i'm not a tech, but I had a similar experience with my jeep. The fuel injectors seal at the injector was failing and fuel was leaking around the injectors.
I had noticed a gas smell coming from the engine area. checked all fuel lines they were ok, so under further inspection I noticed the injectors were leaking. Had them replaced, which wasn't too cheap at all. i would definately have it looked at soon. I am always weary of driving a car with fuel leaking anywhere. I'd hate to have a fire start because of it. Alon

99% chance that it is infact the EHA. Usually you can replace it with no problems. The only thing that could be wrong would be if the fuel mixture could be off afterward.
If you can check lambda when done, no worries.

Update!
I took the air cleaner off today and started her up to check for a leak. I found the EHA without a problem, and it was not leaking. I could not find a leak but I could barely smell gas. Does this sound like a problem since I cannot visually see a leak? Is it abnormal to smell gas a bit(and I mean barely, none of my friends can really smell it) under the hood?
Thanks again! |

Are you sure it smells like fuel?
You might want to check the breather hose from valve cover to air box. Also, make sure the vacuum line from the hose to the fuel pressure regulator is in place. If you are sure it's fuel double check all of the injector connections on the injectors and fuel distributor as well as the EHA. Make sure everything looks real dry. Vin |
