Tachometer system on 300TD 1985

Tachometer fails to record RPM. Have replaced it, the RPM Amplifier & RPM sensor with used parts that were operational on another car and it still fails to record.
:)
How do I test these components of the group? Are there others? Fuse OK.

A bit frustrated. What can I be overlooking?
