Online Vendor Warning
2 Attachment(s)
Hey all...
Just wanted to give a heads up to all of you about a mercedes online parts supplier that is a little on the dishonest side - Adsit. Their website is www.adsitco.com. I am fixing up an '82 240D and the driver's side door is junk (rusted, bondoed over, yadda, yadda). I tried local salvage yards witout success and went to the web. Before ordering from Adsit, I called to inquire about used body part condition and shipping charges. I was told that there would be *no rust* on the door - perhaps some dings - and that it would be shipped just as the shell. Well, I received it today, and there was a bunch of surface rust on the bottom of the door, two pinhole through rusts, and a 3 inch spot of through rust. Everything was in the door (all of which I now need to take out to paint and b/c all of the mechanisms are power instead of manual) as well. I may not have been as PO'ed if I hadn't talked with a supervisor - Joe - who claimed that the original person that I spoke with "must have made a mistake" on the rust policy and assured me that "it is impossible to get a 24 year old door without rust" (those of you in the southwest must be lying through your teeth). He also informed me that they "do not send out parts with through rust." I e-mailed him photos of the through rust, to which he responded - "You have to be kidding me." Adsit specializes in parts for MB... thought you might like to know. If you find lying to be as dispicable as I do when it comes to online vendors, please drop Joe an e-mail at info at adsitco.com and tell him that you are a Benz owner that read about this incident or be very wary when dealing with them. Hopes this keeps from causing future problems for some of you. Here's some of the rust.... a bunch more surface rust around the drain holes and seals. I may be a little particular - but I bought based on what I was told *no rust* |
How much money are we talking about here?

The issue is principle not principal.
If you must know it was an $85 door that cost $110 to ship.... $195 total. Could have bought one in SoCal for $300 shipped to door (and likely without rust). |
Well, if you disassemble and paint anyway, fixing that isn't too much of a big deal. Fortunately, I've never bought anything from Adsit - something there isn't right, and several other forum members here have pretty strong negative feelings about them. Buying used parts online is a crapshoot I've so far done only a few times, and I've been extremely lucky so far - I don't want to push it.

I have heard of a few members here that have also had a bad experiance with Adsitco. I wouldn't accept that door, did you pay with a credit card? Dispute the charge, I wouldn't pay for that door.
I have a perfect set of rust free doors from my parts W126 and it was a New England car. I would be shocked if rust free body parts were not a dime a dozen out west and in CA. |
They are way over board on their prices. The heck with 'em.
