Trying to read on-line manuals

For awhile I was able to read the following on-line manuals:

http://skinnerbox.steaky.org/Service/W124/Main.html

and,

http://mb.braingears.com/

Now when I try to look up something on either of these, the site loads ok and I can follow through the manual until I get to the final page. Then I get a blank page with a tiny rectangle in the upper left corner which has three very small colored shapes in it. For example, when I try to look at the electrical diagrams on Braingears, the blank page comes up at the point where I should be seeing a diagram or perhaps a list of diagrams.

What I am asking is whether these sites are not working right or do I have something set wrong in my computer? Other web sites seem to be ok. I am using XP, Norton Antivirus, ZoneAlarm firewall, SpyBot Search and Destroy, and AdAware. (I'm a bit paranoid)

Thanks for any help for this somewhat computer-challenged senior citizen.

They worked fine for me. Usually it is a component failure in windows that causes the little box with the shapes in it to appear. Did you recently uninstall/install anything that might've messed with shockwave? Try installing shockwave and see if that gets you anywhere. It could also be a java screwup of some sort, but it seems to be something with your computer that changed rather than the sites being down. Best of luck.

Just tried them both. Braingears worked fine. The electrical trouleshooting section is a huge 275 pg. pdf document. On Skinnerbox, for some reason it opens the pdf file in a new window as html code. You might try right clicking on the link, which shows it to be a .pdf file, and click "Save Target As" and save it to a location on your hard drive. Then start up Adobe Reader, click "File/Open" and select the file to open it. That way, you can have a permanent local copy of the wiring diagram. I've found Skinnerbox to be somewhat flaky in the past as well, although there's good information there if you're willing to dig for it. Not sure what the problem is.

P.S. - You might want to add MS AntiSpyware if you haven't already. Lot of good tools included and very good anti-spyware utility.

Thanks for the help and now it works.

Well, now that I was told the two sites were working, I concentrated on my computer. I very recently replaced my old (5yr) 40G hard drive with a new, 160 G, drive. When I copied the contents of the old drive to the new, I think some files got lost or corrupted, what ever that means. Besides not being able to read sites like Braingear, my System Restore isn't working. :(

Anyway, I went to the Adobe website and found there was a new Adobe Reader 7.0 available. Since the problem seemed to be with the Adobe 6.0 which I have been using, I downloaded the Adobe Reader 7.0. Now I can read both manuals just fine. :sun_smile

Thanks for the help!!

I have some problems viewing manuals with Firefox, but Internet Explorer seems to work fine. :P

Does anyone know if the W202 will ever make it to those sites?

Thanks,

Mike

if getting blank pages

download the latest acrobat reader. Also a popup blocker (turn it off) will prevent the PDFs from loading.

On the Skinner site
Can you guys get in to see the PDFs for the W126 model?
I can select it and it shows the numbered categories then I select an part from that and it goes to the next page showing specific items and when I select one of those groups I get a HTTP404-File Not Found error.

Any suggestions?

But I can get to the PDFs on the 123 & 124 manuals

I get the same thing; when you get to the link to the actual service page it comes up with a page not found error.

Have you tried the Braingears site at http://mb.braingears.com/ ? It appears to work fine for the 126 info. It's a little harder to find what you want, but it's all there.
