Electrical - Pwr Seats - Symptoms Listed

'87 300TD

K5 Power Seat Relay stays energized (hot temperature resulting).
V1 Power Seat Diode was open . . . replaced it.
Power seats operate through full range of motions with key out of ignition and all ignition positions.
Interior overhead light operates correctly.
Radio activates with key out of ignition only when the front door is open.
Seats will not move when fuse #9 (8amp, connection to Circuit 30) is removed, even when the ignition switch is turned on (this has not been rechecked since replacing the open diode).

I would really appreciate some directions to continue to solve this problem.
Thanks
Steve

Did you replace the diode with an identical used part? The new one comes in a grey housing and the diode is a lot beefier.

Actually, the removed one had the gray housing and the diode was a 1N4003 which equates to a 300V, 1 amp. That would have been the newer type. I removed the diode from the case and installed a new diode. I went with a 1N4004 which is 400V, 1 amp. Seems the diode is still intact though that is only based on a visual inspection after running through my (field) tests. Had to finish those without daylight.

My printout of the schematics (so far) have been less than optimal. I need to find more on the CD and try some different printer settings to see what is what. No matter, this is stretching my capabilities beyond my limited experience. I can follow directions . . .
Any leads and/or suggestions (short of taking it to a shop) would be appreciated.
Steve
