Meant for U.S. sale or personal Import?

1978 250 Straight Six, 4 bl Stromburg ( I think )

There is NO tag on or near the door jam areas that mention U.S. customs or fuel regs. There is one RED tag in english stating tire pressure and a few other things.

How can I tell what I have?

That model was NEVER intended for sale in the USA!

Whaddaya Have...?

I suspect MBDoc knows of what he speaks/writes - I'm thinking because they didn't market the carb'ed versions over here that late.

Tha being said, if you post the vin, somone here can help or call MBUSA with the vin - they'll give you the build data.

As for the blower motor problem in your other thread, the car would not have anything particularly unique in the heating (a/c if it has it) system and the blower motor assy & appurtenances are going to be the same as the US models.

The W123 250 was never imported officially into the U.S., only by the infamous Grey Market.

It could have some English tags as required by import rules at the time. This car should NOT have a VIN, only a chassis and engine number (which are different IDs from an U.S. VIN).

This particular model was produced in very small numbers (the 200, 230/230E and the 280/280E were the best sellers on the W123 line-up). It basically served as an option on markerts that penalized heavily with taxes engines above 2,500 c.c., like Italy for example.

In the 80's, the Grey Market imported many unsual M.B. to the U.S.. Some examples: W116 280S/SE and 350SE/SEL and on the W126 the 280SE/SEL.

Thanks guys!! :D

I have been told that the Blower motor should be the same part as in many of the 280's.

Thankfully here in the Seattle area there are a few yards that deal in JUST
Mercedes benz. Two have told me to pull the part and bring it in and they will size it up.

yeah

and the carb i believe is almost a direct interchange with a quadrajet or a edelbrock quadrajet replica. i once adapted one on my bmw bavaria. i had it set up with jets from a 67 pontiac sprint six cyl. worked pretty well... alot better thanthe junk solex it came with.

Good point! It sure looked like a q-jet to me.

With only 200167 miles for a 78 that looks like it was taken good care of...did I get a good deale for 300.00 bucks?
