One Of The Pins On My Fuel Pump Relay Is Not Getting Power

1983 500sl Euro

I Took A Piece Of Wire And Connected It To The Pin Next To It Because It Is Getting Power....

EVERYTHING WORKS FINE IT SEEMS...

I Noticed After 5 Or So Minutes...the Relay Was A Bit Warm....

Questions>>>>

Are Fuel Pump Relays Normally A Bit Warm???

Is It Ok To Connect The 2 Pins Or Is This A Big No...no...and Dangerous???

Thanks Guys!!!

I don't know if what you did is OK or not, but if the things on your car are similar to the Bosh D tronic wiring, the pump relay receives energy from the Electronic unit. You may need to check the connections of the Electronic Unit and also your battery connections.

Fuel pump relays get warm naturally. Jumping a circuit, especially when you don't know what you have done is definitely a No-No. If the pump does shut down when you turn the key off, then you have probably only bypassed the safety nature of the relay. The relay is designed to only power the pump when the engine is running. In an accident the pump stops when the engine dies, even if the key is left on.

If you have jumped the 30 terminal to the output the pump will run continuously even with the key off and other than fire liability the battery will go dead.
