300e JUST DIED! HELP!
'91 300e 4matic
For the first time, the car started from cold rather poorly twice yesterday in the Am and the Pm, requiring a lot of extra crank but finally catching and then running normally. This am, same thing, a long cranking session and then idling rough for a few secs, then normal. But after I drove around the corner, it died and wont restart. Plenty of crank... electrical system is seemingly fine. My hunch is it's fuel delivery related...any thoughts? |
I would check for spark first just to be sure. You could have a grounded ignition rotor and/or a bad cap. I would also check to see if the large plastic vacum line runnin to the brake booster hasn't split, leading to a large vacum leak. If spark checks out then I would look at fuel. I would suspect a loss of fuel pressure.
Good luck |
Thanks
I have more info now that I home and just tried to start it...there's GAS gushing out onto the street from in front of the rear right wheel! I guess the line is cracked or the filter or pump fell apart (it just POURS out)...I suppose the pump still pumps when cranking, but it pours out the hole... Any ideas? |
All the fuel goodies (pump, filter, accumulator) are in that area under a plastic cover. While you're in there you might as well replace the filter if it hasn't been done recently.
