newbie tranny question
Hello guys, my problems is with my 81 300sd tranny when i give it gas it revs up high, and when i let off the gas it jumps into gear it pick up speed and it revs up high again and when i let of the gas once again it jumps into the next gear. Now is this called flaring or sliping? i hear a lot about the bowden cable can you tell me where it is and how do i adjust it? is it that red cable on top of the valve cover? i have changed the fluid and filter and still the same problem any info on what to do nex would be great. The 3-way vacuum conector needs to be replaced but they say that it would not solve the flaring or sliping problem sorry for the long post

It is called flaring, if that is what it is. Flaring occurs between shift points and is usually more noticeable between 2 to 3, and more often 3 to 4.
Flaring is adjusted at the modulator valve, drivers side of tranny. It has a single vacuum hose connecting. Check all vac hoses for leaks. The bowden cable connecting from accelerator to tranny adjusts shift points. Shift points should occur around 2000 rpm. |
Be careful when adjusting the modulator. Only SMALL movements are needed to get BIG changes in shift quality. Too soft will abnormally wear the brake bands.
