NEW here, need help restoryin 84 500SEL
hi there im new here. i have a 84 550SEL that i am wanting to start to restore. its been sitting for about 7 years now. i am having a hard time getting it to even run. i checked and the fuel pump had rusted so i replaced that. looked like it was getting enough voltage, its cranking over with tons of spark but still no luck.. tomorrow i will check and redo the head gaskets as they look like they are done.. anyone think of anything else? i put fresh gas in, oil change etc.... what are the common problems with these cars? its got 101 xxx kms on it... where can i to find more info about this car? its a v8 gasoline, auto....i am also needing some interior trim peices, front head lights, signal, bumper etc etc
thanks |
550?
really? sure it is not a 500?
oh well, why do you think the head gaskets are bad? this seems very unlikely and something that normally would not decay after sitting. now if iwere trying to revive an old car i would first get all the old gas out of it, change the fuel and air filters, check the spark plugs (they can tell you the running condition when it was parked), change the air filter, check the plug wires, dist cap, rotor, and follow all wires on the engine, check all wires to the coil, all fuses.... then if it is not getting fuel i would loosten the fuel line where it comes from the tank on the engine and see if fuel was getting there. then i would pull a spark plug with a wire attached crank and see if the plug sparks. when you have fuel, spark and compression and air, it will run. good ludk. tom w |
yes haha it is a 500..
i have done all that so far and still nothing...a buddy told me theres no coolant and that the water and coolant was mixed with air etc in the heads? also the wiring is messed up and that for some reason he might need to run a seprate fuel line with a switch on it itself instead..... any more info would be great! thanks |
