This is a relatively easy job, but you need to handle the pad in a certain way to avoid problems:
1. Get the correct pad from dealer or parts store 2. Get a good grade of spray adhesive, meant for pad adhesion etc. The parts store can sell you that, or you can get it at Walmart 3. Clean off any heavy areas of old adhesive under the old pad, to provide a good surface. (You don't need to sand it down or anything, just get any loose or significant old adhesive off with a putty knife or something.) 4. Start spraying the adhesive, coating each area well -- either from the rear of the pad fit area or one side ... and keep spraying a portion, then pushing the pad onto the adhesive .... repeating that action until the whole pad is adhered. Push up on the pad all over to assist with good adhesion and be sure you spray quite a bit of adhesive around the edges as you are installing the pad. Then you are done. Note: Fit the pad dry to the hood, to see exactly where the edges are in reference to the hood, so you have a good starting point for the procedure. Whether you start at the back of the hood or one side, just be sure that first adhesion area of the pad is exactly where it should be .... then the rest of the pad will go on progressively well.

The following products have been recommended in this forum and others:
1. 3M-#08984,general purpose adhesive cleaner,1 US quart 2. 3M-#08987,adhesive remover, aerosol 3. 3M-#08090,super trim adhesive, aerosol, yellow Don't make the mistake of using adhesive product #08060,the cans are identical, but it will peel off because of under-the-hood heat. This can be fixed by re-gluing with #08090. Good luck. ![]() Also, you may want to buy some new attaching plugs from your MB dealer.Old ones do break/collapse when you remove them. bluzygent,
Be sure that you mask off or otherwise completely cover all exposed parts of the car. Removing adhesive overspray can be a real pain. At the Home Depot paint department you can buy rolls or masking tape that have a thin, clear sheet of plastic attached. It's folded up next to the tape, but when you unfold it, it covers a fairly large area. Old bedsheets work well for the engine bay, roof and trunk lid. Do a search on hood pads as well and you'll find a lot of good advice. Gary |
