Does the 140 have a drive by wire system?
Thanks |
Somewhat! Depends on model, year, & traction system.

Does the 1995 S500 with ASR have the system?
Thanks |
The system you are inquiring about is grouped in an area called EA/CC/ISC. Electronic accelerator/cruise control/idle speed control. You would not have EA without ASR but just having ASR doesn't guarantee having EA.
The easiest way to tell is to scan the system. It could be done by reading the vehicle data card and converting the version codes. Your dealer should be able to give you the data card. |
The 1997 & later cars use a fly-by-wire system completely. On your car the linkage moves a potientiometer in the accelerator actuator & the computer moves a motor to engage the butterfly. But even with a failure the cable still can pull the throttle approx 40%, fail safe mode.

Thanks for the replies!
Since the 1997 & later cars use this system completely, what advantages do they offer over a car not using this system completely? Thanks |
My CLK 320 definitely has it then. . . I was quite surprised the first time I used the cruise when the car would upshift and downshift when I held the lever up or down. . .I've always wondered about that. . .

Thanks for the replies and take care.

Does a '95 M-B E420 with ASR have drive-by-wire? My car is dull, I actually wouldn't mind tellin' my friends that I got drive-by-wire...that is *IF* I have it...

The 1995 E420 has the same system as the S500, cable pulls linkage that moves potientiometer & computer moves motor that opens butterfly.
