(85 500 sel) and soot out the exaust, does this mean anything?

Yes, this means something. For one the mixture might be too rich.

You're burning more gas that you should be, and at todays prices too!
The air/fuel mix needs sorting out, ie leaning off. Mike.

Soot means unburned fuel.
Unburned fuel is rich mixture, and catalytic converter not cleaning it up! Under HARD acceleration, many cars will go rich and produce soot that the cat. cannot clean up quickly. At idle, there should be NO SOOT. When are you seeing soot? |
