I have a 1987 Mercedes 260 E. I noticed it was revving by itself. I took it into the mercedes service station and they said it was a faulty air sensor unit and that it would cost around $1000 to repair. Is this a correct estimate? And should I ask for the broken parts to make sure it was replaced? Thanks for any help you can give me.

submit email for price to PartsShop.com

and give it a couple/few days and you will be quoted a price better than the dealer. Ask all of the necessary questions on here and you should be able to remove/replace it yourself. The hard part is making absolutely sure that this is the part that needs to be replaced prior to purchasing the item.

This sounds AROUND ABOUT RIGHT. I mean the labor is what is hard. I just hope they diagnosed it correctly.

adaman,

I had a problem that may be similar. When I would come off the highway from driving 60+ mph for any extended period of time, the car would idle high for a short period of time, maybe 10 to 15 seconds. Took it to another shop, my mechanic was on vacation, and they couldn't figure it out, took several trips yadda, yadda, yadda.

When my mechanic returned from vacation, he discovered in about 10 seconds, that it was simply the mixture was too lean. Hasn't done it in 100K miles.

This board, and my mechanic are simply invaluable! It could have cost me hundreds of dollars.
