Thanks Don,
Do you think that the used lights will be in presentable condition? I'm thinking about it because its cheaper, and I'm cheap by nature, but my cars are what I splurge on. Let me know what you think, and Thanks Again! Jason M. 86 300e 88k miles 99 Crew Cab Chevy Dualie 7.4L |

You could also try the address where I got my used ones - http://www.europarts-sd.com/ . They were about $300, didn't reguire a trade in. I went with them because they were only about 45 miles from my house, and I wanted to look before I paid! He had about 3 or 4 pair from grey market 300Es that were being parted out. All had good glass lenses, most had minor pitting on the reflectors that didn't affect the light output on the ones I got. They all were Hella units, with the star indicating an "official" MB part, and they all had the vacuum servos for the dashboard leveling knob feature (which I didn't use). I've been happy with mine - the fog lights on these put out more usable light than the old US light's low beams!

adsitco.com
hi jason,
yes adsitco.com has new or used euro lights. they give a 10% disc on fax orders.[i deal with ken] trading in old lights is an option. you get 100.00 credit. depending on where you live shipping charges for me would have been 25.00 i only live a couple of states away.then you'd only net out 75.00 credit. i sold my old u.s. lights on e-bay. i made out a little better that way. they [adsitco]are very reliable and have great customer service. my 2 cents worth

Consider your Headlight assemblies are used also and they perform OK. It appears I am being quoted by other members. And I too deal with Ken. As for the 10% discount for FAX orders, I wasn't aware of that, but I got the same discount for being a member of MB Club of America.

Just found a good source for Hella brand Euro headlights. I called Hella directly and they referred me to a company called Puma who sells a set for $375 (new) for my 300E.
Shipping was $15 or so, so about $390 total for a new pair, not too bad! (side markers included) Give em a call @ 1-800-354-3552 and they'll even switch bulbs in and out for you depending on your desires. Good luck ~~Paul |

Search around. I got mine from "Effects" in Arizona for $150/pair NEW, and they too had the vaccuum servos which I did hookup. Mine actually came in MB boxes, and are BOSCH units with the MB Star logo.
http://www.northlink.com/~effects/main.htm Properly aimed with Narva 80/110 bulbs and 10-ga. wiring & relays, the light pattern is incredible, and no one flashes me. Good luck, :-) neil |

Meh!
Neil, did you purchase the entire left and right Euro headlight assemblies for $150 or just the lenses? That price sounds almost too good to be true. Either way they look sweet on your MB. ~~Paul |

$300 for the pair, from Effects in Arizona. This was in 1996, BTW.
The only thing frustrating is that it didn't come with the Mercedes 6-prong connector shells (< $15), or a wiring diagram. It was easy to figure out with a VOM, and I have three good MB parts guys who can find and get me just about anything. Happy hunting, :-) neil |

At Last

At last the use of relays and larger wiring has surfaced. A year or so ago I offered and was accepted by quite a few the instructions and bill of material for doing that. I purchased my Euros from Tigris here in home town Houston for $145.00 each less an attractive trade in for my OE headlight assemblies. I am using 100/80 watt bulbs. I use # 8 ga. wire to the relay and # 10 for the bulb(hi/lo) and ground. The ground is attached at the alternator. Happy Trails Beep Beep from The Spiderman in Houston!!! |

In the salvage yards in Germany, these lights go for about DM180 each. Last summer, the exchange rate was about DM2.40 to the dollar making them about $75 each. This is the best I remember. I haven't checked the exchange rate lately.
I thought I was going to Stuttgart last April, but my meeting ended up being in Switzerland. I have a European meeting coming up again the end of September and hope it is in Germany so I can get another chance at an affordable pair of Euro lights. I believe that to customs this stuff is pretty much junk, and might be purchased from a German salvage yard and shipped here pretty inexpensively, although I haven't tried this approach. If you upgrade to Euro lights, there's really no need to add more powerful bulbs and the necessary associated wiring. The integrity of a light is almost entirely in the reflector. The MB 124 light reflectors for the US market are junk, but the Euro's are top notch, alleviating the need for more powerful bulbs. The heat they generate, damages the internal wiring of the headlight assemblies. I have a set on my 240D that I got after someone used 100Watt bulbs. They have a distinct burnt electrical smell and the connectors are brittle. I suggest that you stay with Euro reflectors and standard bulbs. Have a nice day, |

Hey Spiderman, got any contact info for Tigris in Houston? I am going to try to contact them on euro lights for my 190E. Thanks Christopher

If any of you are interested I have the issue of "Star" that has a very good DIY article on how to install Euro headlights on the W124. This article has part numbers for all the pieces necessary to do the job. E-mail me privately and I'll send you a copy. I have two cars to do! $$$$$$
I agree 100% with Larry. W124 US headlights suck!!

I noticed that it is possible to order the Philips Silver Vision turn signal bulbs from overseas. Is there a particular size or is it one size fits all? I have an '87 300E. Also, I noticed that both Hella and Philips make a halogen/xenon bulb. Which one is better? I hesistate to order the Philips Blue Vision bulbs because I feel the light output will be less. BTW, I have Euro headlights. Also, what fogs would you suggest: clear or amber, and what manufacturer? Could I use the xenon/halogen bulbs as foglights also?

No, the fog lights are H3 bulbs, different shape and connections. If I were ordering bulbs from overseas I would go for the Philips H4 Vision Plus, that claim 50% more light on the road over standard Philips H4 halogens. I have the Philips premiums, which claim 30% more, and they are noticeably brighter on the road than the stock Philips H4, so I assume the Vision Plus bulbs will be even better.
For fog light bulbs, I am using a Hella bulb that has a dichroic coating. To oncoming traffic it looks like a slightly iridescent white fog light, but from the drivers seat the ground is yellow.
