I've heard of TYC, but I thought they were a Taiwanese head light manufacturer, instead of German?

You can check them out here:

http://www.genera.com

I don't know if they are the same TYC, maybe I'm wrong...

El Cheapo Euros

If you want Euros for your Benz and don't want to pay the price, I've found a source for used Euros.
Example: W124 $395.00 minus $100.00 trade allowance for your OEM equals $295.00/pair plus $16.00 S&H Total $311.00 at your door.

Do you know anything about TYC lighting products? These puppies are half the price of Bosch or Hella. I found another distributor of TYC lights today who is selling complete sets of euros for the 124 for less than $200. This is very tempting indeed. PLEASE, anyone, any opinions on TYC lights? Thanks

jdoc7,

Sorry, I've never had any personal experience with TYC. I only know about them since I see their lights in some of the Japanese car shops in Vancouver. They seem to be popular with the Japanese car owners. I wasn't aware that they made Euro head lights for Mercedes-Benz until you mentioned them in this thread. However, head lights seem to be a very crucial element of your automobile. If it were me, I would try to fork out the full sum for the Bosch Euro head lights, instead of the TYC's. Although they may be cheaper, I tend to question their longevity. Furthermore, I think the $$$ is worth the peace of mind in knowing that my Bosch stuff probably won't break down on me (hopefully). I would hate the thought of running on the highway in the middle of the night and my head lights suddenly went out. These were the decision factors I had in mind when I selected my Bosch clear indicators, which are obviously much less important than the actually head lights you are shopping for. Either way, I hope whatever you select works out for you in the end! Good luck!

Hella Euro headlight source

Hi all,

I just bought Hella Euro headlights for my 190E-16V from PUMA ( http://www.puma-access.com ) for $290 with the amber indicators. I'm sure they can get the Hellas for the 300E as well. They also have Hella clear corners for around $60.

They have the best prices I've found.

Cheers!!

Daniel

Thanx for the info Dan.
Are your light new or used?
Do they offer trade in of your OEM lights?
Adsit has used for $395.00 less $100.00 trade in for your OEM lights.
Adsits are Bosch.
Your's sound great.

Donald,

They're brand new lights. I don't know if they'll take trades. I kind of doubt it. But if your old lights are in good shape, you could always sell them on eBay or something.
The quality of the Hella units is great. PUMA also carries the lenses for $75, so if the lenses ever get cracked you can just buy new lenses.

Cheers!!

Just wonderin',

Between the two OE suppliers of lighting, Bosch and Hella, which one do you guys prefer? Is the quality of one better than the other? I've never seen this discussed before, only comparion between aftermarket vs. these two OE suppliers. I think this info would actually be useful...thanx a lot!

Dan,

I just checked out PUMA for euro lights for my 300E. They are currently out of stock and want $395.00 for them. If the lights for your 16V were new, you got a good deal. The search continues...

TYC euro lights

These show up on ebay every now and then, one supplier I conversed with stated they had the E13 "E-code" stamping on the lens ..

Now then, the reason we're interested in Euro lights is the superior reflector mainly, right? And if TYC lights have the E-code insignia, does this not suggest they are approved by the Euro agencies as meeting the correct lighting standards (eg proper reflector design with sharp cutoff)??????

Replaceable lenses (interchangeable with Bosch/Hella) is a must as well, which has been confirmed ....

Interested,

Brian
