Remove / replace inside rear view mirror - W124

Okay, so I got a little agrressive with the day/night tab on the inside mirror. Busted the darn thing. Can someone tell me how to go about removing the mirror? Do I need any special tools?

I will check the parts cars for a replacement ... unless someone has one laying around.

Its pretty easy to remove, you just pull down and/or to one side (this requires a lot of effort).

I would suggest replacing it with an auto-dim mirror with homelink from a newer C- CL- SLK- etc. mercedes:

The installation is quite easy, the mirror base of the newer mirrors match the w124 base and then you only need power and ground to make the auto dim and homelink controls work. I picked up a nice, used black mirror from a 00 C230 on ebay for about $30 shipped. You can usually find them for around that price. IMO its a great, cheap upgrade!

<<down and/or to one side>>

--- I will give it a shot. Do you know if it is glued on ... or is it friction that makes it hard to remove? Hopefully, I won't break the mounting device!
Thanks much!

if you look at that link that I posted you can see how the mounting works. There is a hefty spring pushing two peices of metal out: the assembly looks like this (minus the periods):

.......</\/\/\/>
.....=========
............|
........MIRROR

That is pushed up into a metal bracket. So you need pull down and to one side hard enough to compress the spring a bit and pull the mirror out of the bracket.
