W202 Door Check question
 

I found a bolt inside the door of my 1995 C280. It appears to be a bolt for the door check (washer head, painted body color). However, both bolts on the front of the door are in place and appear to be original. I looked for anything missing and didn't find anything so I closed it all up. I still have a nagging feeling that I overlooked something (maybe the hole is under a wiring harness or something). Is there a third bolt holding the door check on this chassis? I know some of the older cars had a third bolt supporting the rear of the check.

I need my drivers side door check replaced...how hard is this to do?

Aswell how long to these door checks last because my car has 80 000kms on it and is a 1999...the drivers door sometimes makes creaking when opening it slowly otherwise u hear it "clicking/clacking" through the joints of the strap.

They are not too difficult. The '99 is a bit different than my '95. Access inside the door is a pain. though.

In answer to the original question, I worked on mine a year ago and I do seem to remember a third screw on the inside, however, I don't recall it being painted. It's been awhile though. If it is not rattling I wouldn't worry about it. On the other hand, if you had the door apart, why not just look?

In answer to the second question, it is not too hard. The main problem of course is getting the door panel off. Also the replacement chacks don't have the strap painted of course. They are just gold colored.

I found the location for the third bolt. There is a plastic sleeve over the housing part of the check (the part inside the door). The sleeve had slid back and was covering the threaded hole. I slid it forward with a sharp tool and the threaded hole for the third bolt was exposed. I have never seen this setup on an M-B before.
