Hi Everyone,

I'm sure this has been discussed to the death of course, but in my situation, I'm not asking about the brand, but rather which lights to get themselves.

For my birthday I'm trying to get the Euro lights. My father called me to ask me what I wanted, I am hinting at the Euro Lights. If he will get them for me, it saves me the money of getting them myself which can be saved towards wheels or suspension.

I have a 1992 300Ce. Should I get the Euro Lights for s 300CE or Should I get the Euro Lights for a 500E. Will the 500E ones fit?

one last question. On the Euro Lights are the fog lights yellow on the regular 300e/400e/300ce etc? The 500E has driving lights or aux high beams in the place of the regular fog lights?

Just want to double check on these things to be sure. Would love to get the 500E Euro Lights if they will fit to get rid of the Yellow fogs. No use for yellow fogs where I live.

Thanks,

Alon

Hey Ashman,

The fog lights on my car aren't "yellow"...but I don't have the Euro lights, but I assume that they would be the same as the '95 W124 fog lights.

Alon:
As I understand it, the only difference between the 500E and 300E Euro lights was the glass lens and the shape of the aux reflector - most specifically, where the bulb was located in the reflector. The 500E lights have a clear glass cover over the auxiliary light, and the bulb is dead center in the reflector, making it a long range pencil beam driving light. The 300/400E lenses have thin verticle scribing over the aux light, and the bulb is off center, making it a downward and wide spreading fog light. Both the fog and the driving are supposed to use the same 55 watt H3 bulb.

The yellow goes away with the US lights, where the yellow effect comes from a tint shield in the reflector. My old H3 bulbs from the US lights were yellow in that car, but white when moved to the 300E Euros. I changed them for some coated bulbs that are pale yellow on the ground, slightly irradescent yellow white when viewed from the front. Too many cars saw 4 lights and assumed I had my high beams on when the bulbs were white, so I changed to the yellow ones - problem solved.

I could never find 500E Euros, just replacement 500E lenses. I decided a pencil beam didn't make that much sense in SoCal, so I went with the 300E lights. Hope this helps.

JCE that just about sums it up for me then. :)

No yellow unless I put in a yellow bulb is exactly the kind of answer I needed, along with the differences in the lense. I think I will just go with the 300CE Euros, Of course

I'll be rewiring with relays and all for maximum effectiveness. I plan on rewiring so well that it looks factory, but I think I will have it so it can be switched back if necessary. I think I'll just wire the new wires in parralel with the old ones, putting connectors to be able to switch cables. hmm thats an idea. :)

I myself would rather have the same pattern as the fogs, just no yellow color.

On my 92 400E, I dont have euro lights YET. I couldnt stand that ugly yellow in my fog lights either. I took the lens apart, and discovered there was a yellow "dome" where the bulb goes. it's made of super thin glass, so I just broke them out on both sides. Now the fogs are white and i love them.

Problem Solved...Peter

Do you want instructions and part numbers for rewiring with relays for more current carrying capacity? If yes, I can E-Mail to you.

As always Donald, I welcome all your mechanical knowledge.

We grow stronger with more knowledge.

I do plan on rewiring it with super thick wires as well.

Alon, look at the underhood pix of the Ram Air and you'll see the location of my headlight relays.
I'll E-Mail the rest to you and a little something extra.
