Emergency brake is stuck: Please help
 

Help. I did the stupid thing and unconsiously set the handbrake before storing my car. I had to move the car to make room and yada, yada, yada...the handbrake will not release. The cable has released but there is drag (more notably in reverse) and the interior light is illuminated. We tried to unstick it by tapping with a hammer (works on American cars) but no luck with my 450SEL. What now? I am not as familiar with this car as I should be. Just getting starting on a restoration education. Need some direction, Please. :eek:
