300TD - Leaking injectors/car won't shut off...

Checked out an '84 300TD yesterday. There was a pool of diesel around the front-most and rear-most injectors. Any way to tell if it's a return line or the injector itself. I searched but still need more info. I tried to use it as a bargaining point, but the owner stayed strong at $1700, saying it was a minor repair. What are the chances of fire? I was thinking of picking it up and driving to get it replaced, but I don't want the car to BBQ itself on the way. Apparently, diesel is not as flammable as gasoline, but can the engine compartment reach flashpoint temps?

Edit: Also, when we pulled the key out of the ignition, the car still ran for a good 15 sec. What could be the reason behind this?
