Repair Manual on cd

Anyone have any experience with one of these? They're going for $10 on ebay, and the guy says that it is absolutely comprehensive, totally covers it all. Just not sure if it's as good as it sounds. Let me know if you know anything, I'd appreciate it.

Benz themselves makes two sets of service manuals available on CD.
For us consumers, the CDs are under 100$ and cover specific models or families. For a W126 chassis car, the two CD set has everything you need:
- owner's manual (yes, that's a service book)
- maintenance manual
- body & chassis manual
- engine manual
- climate control manual
- electrical troublshooting manual
Note that it is missing a transmission service manual.

For late model cars, there is the system they sell to their own dealerships. Last I checked, it was a 10,000$ comprehensive CD+computer plus diagnostic hardware system called WIS. That pricetag is designed to keep it out of your hands and mine. However, lots and lots of people bootleg it on ebay.

Last time I had a set of WIS disks, it is difficult to install and requires lots of disk space. However, those of us who are computer geeks as well as mechanics tend to get by. It doesn't do anything useful for cars earlier than 1992 BTW. Also there are US and Euro versions of it. If you are going to go the bootleg route, buy it from somebody on your continent.

And as the other fellow pointed out, if it's not benz own stuff but instead is mitchel or the others, don't bother with it.

To start this quest, call or email fastlane. They used to sell the service CDs. If they don't have it, try 1-800-for-merc (that's MB in the US). For people outside the US, there's a non-800 number, but I forget what it is.

I got the 107 Mitchell CD, and it WAS crap - except for the service bulletins appended to it. I got three absolutely invaluable tips from these, and at $3.33 each, it was worth the money.
