New MB Owner
Hi, I'm a 1st time MB owner. I just purchased a 1991 190e 2.6 with 66,000 miles. My question is this; when driving at 70mph the engine revs out at 3500 rpm. Is this normal? It seems high, but then I've never owned one of these beautiful machines. Thanks

Yeah, they rev really high on the highway. The transmission is a 1:1 ratio in 4th gear, so it has no overdrive. Also, it does not have a torque converter lockup clutch. This combined with a high rear diff ratio maks it spin fast on the highway.

According to test reports, the 2.6L should be around 2750 rpm at 60 mph.

If its supposed to be 2750 at 60 mph, then it should be 3200 at 70 mph.
If you do a google search, you can find some programs where you can put in the tire size, gear ratio, and diff ratio to get the proper rpm-speed relationship. |
