Center armrest R&R--W124

I did a search but could not find the answer.

How do you R&R the driver-side center armrest on a 1989 300TE?

Thanks!

Remove the seat back panel of the driver's seat. There are two screws at the very bottom edge. Removing the panel will expose the large nut that holds the armrest onto the side of the seat frame.

On the W124 you don't need to remove the seatback panel. Look where the armrest mounts to the seat. There's a small plastic cover that pops off, and underneath are two 13mm nuts holding the armrest to the seat.

I didn't know the the W124 seats were that different from the W201. Good to know!

Thank you. I'll try it this week.

W124 center armrest question

Thank you for the replies.

I think I should have been a little more specific with my question. So here it goes again.

My 1989 300TE has a center armrest from a newer model (the one with the built-in console for the phone). Problem is, the spring latch that keeps it in the level "up" position is broken, so the armrest sgas down.

I have an original W124 center armrest from my car's year (no built-in console). It has a good latch though.

I want to swap latches from the good one to the broken one. So, how do I open up the latch mechanism to swap latches?

Thanks.

Are you referring to the mechanism that is (dis) engaged with the large black circular button? You can indeed replace this mechanism. Start by prying out the circular trim ring around the black button, and pull the button out. Underneath is a snap-ring (or two) that holds the mechanism in place. Be careful pulling it out - the mount with the two holes is a bit tough to maneuver through the leather armrest.
