Offroading in a W123: Fitting bigger tires.

All right this aint your normal question and I wont be offroading just off the tarmac. I just bought a 81 240D and live in a rural location with bad roads, I would like a little more clearance under the car. What is the largest tire I can fit under a W123? Can you mildly lift a MB? Along with the larger tires I will need to change to a lower diff, what are the lower diff ratios for a W123 and what vehicles are they in?

Thanks

Jared Ivy

the ratio

on a stock 240 is 369. on the older cars some had 390. 15 " wheels were offered as a high clearance option with taller springs that raise the car about 2". i am guessing on the height.
