resettting computer on a 124 2.5 TD

Had a right headlight go out on my '92 2.5 Turbo-diesel. While attempting to replace headlight bulb, I disconnected some vacuum lines. Car was running for 45 minutes while I attempted to get locking ring back on. Tried to drive car and it wouldn't go over 5 mph with tons of smoke. Looked at it again and the servo on the intake pipe coming out of the turbo was closed. Would not open. I finally disconnected a vac. line and the servo moved into the wide-open position. Drove another 600 miles to my destination. Wouldn't drive right. no power. I changed big fuel filter and hooked vac lines back up and disconnected the electrical connection leading to the vac servo. Drove home 800 miles without any problems. However, the car used a quart and a half of oil(never used oil before). I can't put connectioin back on without severe performance probs. When cold, the thing doesn't get enough air(flap stays shut). Question--is there a way to reset the computer to a default position? Thanks, Ernie in Louisville
