84 mercedes 380se

Hi,
I am getting a thump thump noise when I hit my brakes. I had the rotors cut down in the front but am still getting the noise. Could a caliper be bad? IF so is there a way to tell which one it is? I only get the noise when I hit the brake. Any ideas? Thanks

Hey Karl. Just a guess, I had the same prior to rebuilding my 380 sel and found the clunk was worn out lower ball joints. And, ck the guide rod bushings; they are notorious for clunking when hitting the brake and bumps. If you are getting a pulse w/ the brake pedal, the rotors are shot despite having them turned. I would get new rotors. They are inexpensive. I think if you had a bad caliper, the car would pull to the side of the working caliper. Or vise/versa if one were sticking. One way to ck the ball joints is have someone observe the front wheel when you stop; low speed in a parking lot. If the whole wheel shifts back, the guide rod or ball joint is culprit. Hope this helps:eek:
