HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN IT IS BAD? MINES GIVING OFF A ROTTEN ODER SMELL AND MY CAR TEMPERTURE GAUGE IS READING IS HIGHER THAN NORMAL.BETWEEN 80-100* 1993 190E 2.6

If it is bad and your state has an emmissions inspection, then you will fail the inspection. When it is bad, NOx readings will be higher than the legal limits.

It is a rather expensive part to replace.
80-100C sounds normal for temp.
