1993 400E brakes help
Recently my 1993 400E has had its light to the right of the red parking BRAKE light in the dash been blinking and occasionally stays lit. It is the orange light with a circle of little dashes. It mainly flickers with my foot on the brake but sometimes flickers when it is not. Also, once it a while the light stays on solid for a few seconds, usually my foot on the brake. Does anyone out there know what sort of brakes issue I am looking at? Is it a pad indicator or a fluid sensor? Please let me know what this might be and what possible remedies are available. Thanks.

That's the brake pad wear warning light. Check your brake pads in the near future. Once the warning light illuminates you have a 1,000 miles or so (depending on what type of driving you do and how aggressively you drive) before the metal brake pad backing plates contact and begin scoring the rotors. When replacing the brake pads check that the rotors exceed the minimum thickness dimension stamped on the outer edge of each rotor. Rear brake pads normally last through 2 sets of front brake pads. Rotors normally last through 2 sets of brake pads ... you'll notice a lip on the outer edge of the rotors as they wear.
