Looking at a 1992 300te

Here is the skinny on the car....

one owner 115k miles all records and services...head gasket, starter, battery and water pump in the past 400 miles....Nearly new Continentals... super clean and runs and drives perfect..

This 1992 does not have a pass airbag..Is this normal??

The oil pressure gauge is a little off it stays on dead 0 unless under HARD acceleration..It may hit 1 or 2

My main concern is the fact the radio is disconnected due to a electrical draw of some kind..This was figured out after the owner replaced the battery and then the starter..

If you guys have any tips on these wagons I would appreciate any advice or help you could provide.

Thanks ahead for your help!

Joe

This is the part that scares me. When idling, the gauge should be pegged cold and eventually settle to somewhere around .5 to 1 when hot. Light to moderate acceleration should cause that needle to peg. If the gauge reading you described is accurate (and it could be) then I have one suggestion for you: RUN VERY VERY FAST AND VERY VERY FAR AWAY!!!

I think that year also had the biodegradeable wire harness.

No, started the next year on the HFM 104 motor. Would not have a passenger airbag in 92, also started in 93. Oil pressure sending unit is probably bad but you would want to confirm this - either by testing the pressure or putting in a new guage. Market is so bad price seems a little high but the car has a lot going for it.

Was it 92 or 93 that the 300 had the 3.2 motor?

93 is the first with the 3.2 104 engine, handily misdubbed a 300TE that year, even with the larger engine.

The low miles makes this one somewhat attractive, although I would still be hesistant about that pressure issue. How are the rest of the mechanicals? AC, radio, headrests, 3rd row seat, window/door seals, etc.?

A/C is cool..It is original r12 I am sure it will need overhaul soon..Radio is unhooked due to a electrical draw on the battery.. All power options and cruise work. Has all headrest and dual power seats..It has the optional leather seats not MB tex and a third seat. The inside is spotless... Headliner, trim, wood, dash all is very nice.

The A/C I can deal with and the radio no big deal...I hope...I am just worried about the oil gauge.. It has to be wrong otherwise the car would not run for long would it??? I actually let the car idle for one hr with the a/c on high Saturday evening...I just sat outside and drank beer waiting for something to happen...I had the car all to myself Sat and Sunday...

I would offer $5500 if I was sure about the oil pressure.. I may take it and have it checked.

Thanks for all the advice.

Joe

Joe, pay to have a PPI done by a tech familiar with MB vehicles. Insist that he determine the cause of the low oil pressure. Get a list of items that are deficient on the car and negotiate the selling price accordingly.
