Mb Recall/notice

Make and Model: 1998-2004 Mercedes Benz Model 170 Manufacturer : Mercedes-Benz Usa Component: exterior lighting, brake lights Potential Number Of Units Affected : 69278 Summary: On certain passenger vehicles, failure of one of the side brake lights can occur if the bulb had been replaced with certain widely available light bulbs (bulb trade no. 1073). These bulbs have a higher wattage and generate more heat than the bulbs used in production. The base of the socket can be subject to thermal deformation over time. Consequence: This deformation can cause movement in the socket-to-bulb connection, which could lead to a loosening of the electrical contacts in the socket, and failure of the bulb to illuminate. Remedy: Dealers will replace the rear lamp modules. The manufacturer has not yet provided an owner notification schedule for this campaign. Owners should contact mercedes-benz at 1-800-367-6372. Notes: Customers can also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.safercar.gov.
