I need some basic S320 info.

Ok this car is a recent purchase and I am trying to help my friend with it, we are talking about a 1997 S320.

Where is the oil filter and do you need a special wrench to get at it? I know on the S600's a special socket is needed to grab the plastic cap that holds the filter in.

Where is the fuel filter? Under the rear somewhere? Where should I look?

Anything special I should check on the spark plug wire ends? I am a diesel guy I havn't changed plugs in years. Fastlane specs this plug:F 8 DC4 so thats what we will use.

Is special gear lube needed for the rear? Or can regualar Mobil 1 75w-90 be used?

The tranny looks like a sealed for life one. So off to the dealer I don't want to get involved with it.

Is the passengers side rear view mirror supposed to tilt down in reverse like on the W210's?

The serp belt is cracking so it needs to be changed. Anything I should know? I have done a few of them on a couple MB's and it looks about the same. I think the fan shroud needs to move, along with the upper radiator support and then I can get an allen wrench in their to pull the fan. After that release the tension and pull the belt.

Has anyone bleed the brakes on these? Anything special to know or is it just like any other car. The peddle is soft it feels like whoever did them last didn;t do a good job.

Anything else I should check?
Thanks
This car really reminds me of my SDL, the learning curve isn't that steep.

<May be behind a plastic cover underneath the car>

Anything special I should check on the spark plug wire ends? I am a diesel guy I havn't changed plugs in years. If it's the earlier version, I may have a .pdf from the 104 manual that I could get you, I've taken care of that on mine and may be able to offer some tips>

The peddle is soft it feels like whoever did them last didn;t do a good job. <if it is the same system as mine, I've got a home made wire set that activates the ABS unit for a proper bleed - contact me for further investigation>

How'd things go investigating the CEL situation?

Oil filter wrench

Here's more info than you need on the oil filter wrench: Oil filter wrench

The right side mirror does not tilt down when reverse is engaged.

The 722.6 auto transmission was supposed at first to be filled for life, but be careful: it has been proven that you should change the oil at least every 30,000 miles. It should be performed at a dealer since it is quite tricky to do

The brake's bleed is also a very tricky operation. You need a special machine that will fill the brake lines, since the brake fluid on W140s is under high pressure. Also another matter that should be left for the dealer to be performed.

Ok I'll borrow my friends socket. He bought one from the dealer, hopefully the S320 uses the same cap as the S600. Knowing MB it probably does.

Now how is the brake system different then a W126's with ABS? I was going to try and bleed them the traditional way. Ie having one person on the bleed screw and another pumping the pedal. I have done this for years on my W126 with great success. Some people claim it could causes the master cylinder to leak down. The way I look at it if pumping the pedal causes the master cylinder to leak it needed to be changed anyway.
