Gentlemen,

How can I determine if my 1990 MB 500SL has the Adaptive Damping System (ADS) option and/or the Automatic Slip Option (ASR). I bought a near mint 500SL from a friend who was the second owner and he wasn’t sure. I could ask the first owner but he is very difficult to reach sometimes.

My ETM shows ADS and ASR started in 1991.

But if it is wrong, cars with ASR have speed sensors at both rear wheels whereas the ABS cars only have a speed sensor on the differential.

ASR will also have an ASR indicator light on the speedo.

A yellow lit Triangle.

ADS& ASR
 
Simple to tell.
ASR equipped will have a trangle light in middle of speedo (yellow)
ADS will have a rocker awitch above the ashtray to switch from 'normal' to 'sport' modes.
