brakes squeel after pad change c230k
I replaced my rear pads (I did not have the rotors turned) using mercedes parts amd anti-squeel paste (the paste was not MB as well), and immediately the rear brakes began to squeel at very low speeds typicaly at stop lights. I removed the calipars and scuffed the rotors on both sides with an abrasive disk, but the squeel is still there. The rotors look fine, but it is hard to tell if they are the cause, and the car has 100K. What I have been trying to do is get on the brakes hard at higher speeds to may-be brake in the new pads, but the only results are hot brakes. Should I replace the rotors? Any suggestions? :(

Were the edges on the pads tapered?
If not, take them off & use a coarse file to taper the leading & trailing edges on a 45 degree angle. Squealing is normally caused by the pads vibrating ( a very small amount ) in the calipers. I usually apply a compound called " Disc Brake Quiet " to the back of the pads. It's kind of a gummy substance, that semi-dries within a few minutes, before you install the pads. There is also a spray you can buy,which is sprayed on the contact surface of the pads, to reduce/eliminate pad squeal.;) |
if that is the type pads with the single pin, we have had lots of problems with them,we would do rear pads, and almost every time the customer would return with a brake squeel complaint.we used the correct paste, some spray type anti squeel, tryed beveling the pads, nothing would work. we eventually ended up replacing the rotors and that fixed the problem, the rotors were not warped or below spec, but something was wrong. so now when we get the single pin rear pads if the rotors are fine we tell the customer of what may happen, usually they replace the rotors as well. since we have been doing that we have not had any problems. unless the client opts not to do the rotors. remember this only applies to the rear pads with the single pin, and i don't recommend turning any mercedes rotor.

I had the same problem after replacing rear brake pads. After a few weeks of driving I took the pads out that were squeeling (on the rear drivers side wheel), switched them and added more paste to the side and back and the squeel stopped completely.

Great infomation I do have a bevel on the leading edge, and they are single pin. I will remove them and replace with MB anti squeel and insure there is nothing visible that could be causing this. These pad are brand new and like the fella said maybe just replace the rotors. Thanks to all.

I'm also going through the severe brake squeal symptoms on the rear brakes on my 98' C280 with single pin calipers.
I changed the pads (but not the rotors) a few months in the summer back with genuine MB pads (reused pins and spring clip as they were not available from FastLane parts, but they are fine with lots of tension on the spring clip), and had no problems and no squealing until around November. They are so loud now that they will hurt your ears, louder than the horn.:eek: I cleaned the calipers and added brake grease, no help. I then beveled pads on all sides and added the orange brake gummi to back of pads, still super loud.:( Then I put the car on jack stand and put the, held the gas (with traction control off) and brakes at varying levels, until it went away (disc were smoking hot melting the grease away I suspect). Took a while to get them to stop squealing on eth jack stands, and then I took it for a drive (to help cool the disc and pads) and no more squealing...Until the next day and now it’s loud again.:mad: All that is left to do now is to order two new disc, and new pads to match. |
