’92 500E drivers seat recline function possessed.

I can be driving down the road and just out of the blue the seatback will activate and start pushing me into the steering wheel. I can stop it by pressing the recline switch back and the seatback will recline but as soon as I release it the seatback will go back up. These episodes may last a minute or two and may reoccur every five or ten minutes or it may not happen for a few days. The previous owner just adjusted the seat and steering wheel to a comfortable position and then pulled the fuse. That’s what I’ll end up doing but I hate to have a function inoperable. Anyone have the same problem?

This sounds downright dangerous! When did Mercedes start using a computer to control the seats? I don't believe there is one in my '85 380SE, unless you are referring to the memory function control (under the seat, not in the switch)?

atikovi,

Did you ever figure out what was causing this?

I don't think its technically a computer.....something must be shorted or rubbing.

I suspect: the wires going into the door leading to the door switch. If one frayed and is shorting, it might be activating the recline function.

That was over 3 years ago. I'm lucky if I remember what I did 3 weeks ago.
